Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna member Dayan Lanza has been elected the Mayor of the Negombo Municipal Council where the UNP holds the majority of seats.

Lanza was elected the mayor of the counciil by members through a secret ballot. 

It is learnt that the SLFP members of the council have voted for Lanza during the secret ballot. 

Similarly, Priyantha Sahabandu Godagama, a member of the Sri LAnka Podujana Party, became the Mayor of the Galle Municipal Council through a secret ballot.
