Cricket War Breaks Out: Jayantha Instructs SLC To Disregard Nishantha Ranatunga’s Orders

Sri Lanka Cricket President Jayantha Dharmadasa has sent a letter to senior members of the SLC instructing them to disregard orders by Nishantha Ranatunga, Secretary of the SLC.

The letter has been sent to senior members of the SLC on the grounds that Nishantha Ranatunga is acting beyond his mandate while usurping the powers of the Sri Lanka Cricket.

The controversy has arisen with a letter Ranatunga has sent to some provincial, district and school cricket clubs working with the Sri Lanka Cricket with regard to financial assistance provided by the Sri Lanka Cricket.

The letter by Ranatunga, according to SLC sources, has been sent shortly after Dharmadasa had sent a letter to the parties working with the Sri Lanka Cricket on the same matter.

Irked by Ranatunga’s move, Dharmadasa has sent a letter to senior officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket instructing them to disregard Ranatunga’s orders.

The SLC President has stated that the Secretary’s conduct and his ways of usurping powers have created a confusion among members of the cricket administration.

Dharmadasa has also appointed a five-member committee to assist him in day to day operations of the Sri Lanka Cricket. The move, reportedly, is aimed at curtailing powers of the SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Temple Trees revealed Asian Mirror that the SLC President Jayantha Dharmadasa had requested President Mahinda Rajapaksa to remove Nishantha Ranatunga from the country’s cricket administration.
