BBS To Present Its Own "Sinhala-Friendly" Presidential Candidate

Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said his organization would field its own presidential candidate at the next election if mainstream parties failed to come up a "Sinhala-friendly" candidate

BBS General Secretary told that the organization will prepare a set of proposals based on the Sinhala Buddhist ideals for prospective candidates. This will be then presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.

In the event of this set of proposals being rejected, the BBS will put forward a candidate under its banner, Gnanasara Thera said.

While there is serious discussion on the possibility of putting forward a common candidate against President Rajapaksa, Wickremasinghe has shown his intent to contest the next presidential election. However, the JVP is reportedly contesting alone in such an event, not supporting a common candidate.

Reports have not suggested that BBS has been a party of the “common candidate discussions”
