Tense Situation At Minneriya: National Park Closed After 'Unruly' Group Assaulted Wildlife Officers: Four Hospitalized

A tense situation has occurred at the Minneriya National Park when a group allegedly assaulted wildlife officers stationed there last night, Asian Mirror learns.

Four Wildlife Department officials have been hospitalized following the assault and a Police complaint has been lodged over the incident.

However, the national park has been temporarily closed by authorities to ensure safety.

Wildlife Department sources told Asian Mirror that the clash broke out when the Wildlife Officials arrested a person while fishing in the Minneriya tank.

A senior official of the Wildlife Depart said the group behaved in an "unruly" manner after the arrest was made.

The area was declared a national park in 1997 to protect the catchment of Minneriya tank and the wildlife of the surrounding area.

No arrests have so far been made by the Police over the incident.
