Only 17 MPs Turn Up In Parliament This Morning: JO MPs Recovering From Jana Balaya: UNP MPs At Party Convention

September 06, 2018

Only 17 MPs out of 225 were present in the House when Parliament convened this morning.

Therefore, Parliamentary proceedings were adjourned till tomorrow due to lack of quorum.

A large number of Joint Opposition MPs were absent in the House as they were still recovering from the protest March in Colombo, yesterday.

Although the 'Sirisena group' MPs of the SLFP did not take part in the protest yesterday, the majority of them too were absent in Parliament, this morning.

UNP MPs were not in Parliament as the party convention was underway at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha, in Kotte.

However, it has been reported that Rs. 5 million is spent by the government on a usual Parliament day.
