DIG Nalaka Silva Leaves CID After 18 Hours Of Extensive Questioning Over Alleged Attempt To Kill President Sirisena

Formmer TID head, DIG Nalaka Silva has been questioned by the CID for 18 hours, in two days, over an alleged conspiracy to kill President Maithripala Sirisena. 

The DIG, who has been suspended from service temporarily, left the CID premises a short while who after a long day of questioning. 

Police sources said the CID question him again, on another day, over the same matter. The date of the next round of questioning has not been announced yet. 

The DIG did not give any media statement before leaving the CID premises tonight. He also avoided the press and TV cameras that were desperately waiting to catch a glimpse of the controversial Police officer. 

The CID's questioning came in the wake of an inquiry conducted by the Government Analyst into the voice clips released by Namal Kumara, a man identified as Police informant and a former employee of the Presidential Secretariat. 

President Sirisena, at th last Cabinet meeting, blamed the UNP for not taking the alleged plot to assassinate him "too seriously."

A day after this outburst, Sirisena got two of his associates, Shiral Lakthilake and Sarath Kongahage, to hold a press conference in Colombo and explain the "gravity " of the conspiracy.
