Haleem Indicates Muslim MPs Representing UNP May Re-Accept Ministerial Portfolios: Says Party Leadership Must Make A Formal Request

Former Muslim Affiairs Minister Abdul Haleem said Muslim MPs representing the UNP were ready to consider re-accepting ministerial positions if the party leadership made a formal request.

Haleem confirmed that the Muslim MPs who resigned from their posts held a discussion yesterday on the possibility of re-accepting their positions.

The former Minister said the other resigned MPs did not object to the idea of Muslim MPs representing the UNP re-accepting ministerial and deputy ministerial portfolios.

However, a final decision in this regard is yet to be made.

Meanwhile, UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa last week wrote a letter to UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim urging him to re-join the government. The Cheif prelates of the Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters also urged the Muslim MPs to accept the ministerial and deputy ministerial portfolios.
