Bar Association Sri Lank President Kalinga Indatissa PC has promised to file an application today challenging President Maithripala Sirisena’s decision to release Royal Park killer Shramantha Jayamaha on Presidential pardon.

In a Facebook post Indatissa said, “The problem as I see it is the lack of a criteria and guidelines and the absence of a proper and a transparent parole system.

He added, “What is wrong is wrong whether it was this accused or some one else— if the decision is ad hoc, arbitrary and taken without due regard to the relevant considerations.”

“No future President should have the unquestionable, unfettered authority to make a decision under Article 34 of the Constitution…there must be a mechanism in place to guide him..he must act on the recommendation of all parties…not on the dictates of a few monks or priests..or manner which is not transparent," he added.
