FR Petitions Challenging The Elections Date To Be Taken Up Before Supreme Court On May 18th and 19th: AG's Dept. Won't Appear For Elections Commission

Seven Fundamental Rights petitions filed challenging the dissolution of Parliament will be considered by the Supreme Court on the 18th and 19th of May.

Political party representatives, civil society organizations, and a number of concerned citizens have challenged the Elections Commission's decision to hold the election on June 20.

The election date was postponed by the commission due to the COVID19 outbreak in the country and the subsequent curfew.

Meanwhile. the Attorney General today informed the court that the AG's Department is not in a position to appear on behalf of the commission at the hearing.
