In response to a concerning surge in organized crime, Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon has announced the deployment of 20 special police teams across the island.

These teams, initiated in conjunction with the ongoing ‘Yukthiya’ operation, aim to tackle the escalating underworld activities notably observed in the Western and Southern provinces in recent weeks.

Comprising nine personnel each, including a Crimes OIC, four intelligence officers, and two Special Task Force (STF) members, these teams will begin operations on Tuesday, March 19.
