Underworld Gunman Succumbs to Injuries Following Shootout with STF

Last night's confrontation between Police Special Task Force (STF) and a suspected underworld gunman in Ganemulla ended tragically as the gunman, critically injured during the shootout, passed away while receiving treatment at Ragama Hospital.

The shootout erupted when STF personnel, acting on intelligence, conducted a search operation at a residence on Sumedha Mawatha. The suspect, identified as a 28-year-old army deserter from Eheliyagoda, allegedly opened fire on the STF officers. In the exchange, one STF member sustained injuries while the gunman suffered critical wounds.

The deceased, suspected to be involved in multiple underworld gang-related shootings, was believed to be a key figure in the criminal underworld, closely associated with the notorious 'Patta Manju.' Among his alleged involvements was the shooting incident in Dandugama, Ja-Ela on March 09.

Police are continuing their investigations into the incident and the deceased's criminal activities.
