Basil Rajapaksa: Talks with Ranil Positive, General Election Outcome Uncertain

In a recent development, Basil Rajapaksa of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has reported positive outcomes from discussions with President Ranil Wickremesinghe. The meeting, held yesterday, concluded with both parties agreeing to consult their respective parties before making any definitive decisions.

When questioned about the possibility of prioritizing parliamentary elections, Rajapaksa refrained from providing a direct response but emphasized the positivity of the outcome. He announced that the SLPP Executive Committee would convene on March 27 to deliberate on the discussions with the President, who in turn will involve his United National Party (UNP) in the matter.

Rajapaksa further stated, "We will meet again within a week after consulting our parties." Earlier, he had advocated for a snap general election preceding the presidential election, adding intrigue to the unfolding political scenario in Sri Lanka.
