Ceiling Fan Collapse Injures Students at Kandy International School

Two fifth-grade students at an international school in Asgiriya, Kandy, were hospitalized yesterday after a ceiling fan collapsed on them during school hours.

The injured students were swiftly admitted to the General Hospital, Kandy, where medical sources reported injuries to one student's eye and the other's head.

According to concerned parents, the fan had been showing signs of instability, with its wires tangled and swinging in the days leading up to the incident. Despite repeated warnings to the school administration about the potential hazard posed to students, no action was taken to rectify the situation.

Adding to parents' grievances, they highlighted that the school had recently raised its monthly fee to Rs. 5,000 and increased photocopy charges, raising questions about resource allocation and prioritization within the institution.

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the ceiling fan collapse, while parents advocate for improved safety measures and transparency from the school administration to prevent such incidents in the future.
