Colombo Court Issues Enjoining Order Restraining Singer Senaka Batagoda from Performing Seven Hit Songs

Popular singer Senaka Batagoda has been restrained from performing seven well-known songs, including hits like "Api Kavuruda" and "Api Senasille," following an Enjoining Order issued by the Colombo Commercial High Court.

The order, issued on Tuesday (Apr 02), came after musician Janath Kulathilake filed a complaint under the Intellectual Property Act, alleging that Batagoda violated his intellectual property rights and copyrights by not providing him with due economic benefits.
Kulathilake, credited with composing the lyrics, melody, and music for the seven songs, has also demanded Rs. 100 million in compensation for the damages. Judge Priyantha Fernando ordered that the songs cannot be distributed to other parties without the plaintiff's written permission. The affected songs include "Api Kavuruda," "Api Senasille," "Alu Yata Gini," "Rastha," "Heena Walata Panak Thiyenawa," "Senasuma," and "Hodama De."
