Heavy Rains Forecasted Across Multiple Regions Today

The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning of heavy rains expected in several areas today. Showers or thundershowers are anticipated in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and North-western provinces, as well as the Mannar, Galle, and Matara districts.

Moreover, the Uva province and the Batticaloa, Ampara, and Hambantota districts may experience showers or thundershowers intermittently. Residents should be prepared for fairly heavy showers, with approximately 75 mm expected in some places within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces.

Additionally, misty conditions may prevail in the morning in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts. Mariners are advised to exercise caution as showers or thundershowers are forecasted in the sea areas off the coast extending from Batticaloa to Hambantota via Pottuvil.

Winds are expected to be south-easterly or variable in direction with speeds of 20-30 kmph. While the sea areas around the island will be slight, temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation evolves.
