Former UNP Parliamentarian Palitha Thewarapperuma Passes Away

 

Former Deputy Minister and ex-UNP parliamentarian Palitha Thewarapperuma has tragically passed away at the age of 64. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Thewarapperuma may have succumbed to electrocution, with his body currently resting at Kalutara Hospital.

Thewarapperuma was a significant figure within the United National Party (UNP), having served as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Wayamba Development, and Cultural Affairs during the UNP-led national government in 2015. He had a long-standing political career, previously holding positions such as Chairman of the Mathugama Pradeshiya Saba in 2002 and being a member of the Western Provincial Council.

Representing the Kalutara District, Thewarapperuma served as a Member of Parliament from 2010 to 2020. He was highly regarded for his commitment to social service and philanthropy, particularly gaining attention during the COVID-19 pandemic for his efforts in providing essential supplies and support to the rural population in his constituency. Thewarapperuma's passing is mourned by many who admired his dedication to public service.
