Army Investigates Deadly Fox Hill Crash

A seven-member panel, led by a Major General, has been appointed by the Sri Lanka Army to investigate the tragic accident that occurred during the 'Fox Hill Super Cross 2024' racing event in Diyatalawa. Seven individuals, including an 8-year-old girl, lost their lives, and over 20 were injured when a car veered off the track and plowed into spectators.
Among the deceased were four event officials acting as flag marshals, with the rest identified as spectators. The crash, which happened after another car overturned on the track, led to the arrest and remand of two drivers involved. The event, organized by the Sri Lanka Military Academy with the support of Sri Lanka Automobile Sports, attracts both local and international racing drivers and riders.
Despite assurances of spectator safety by the organizers, the event has been suspended following the tragedy.
