Four individuals, including a woman, have been apprehended by officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly extorting a bribe of Rs. 10 million while posing as officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The suspects reportedly entered a residence in Colpetty, Colombo, under false pretenses, claiming to be CID officials. After coercing the victim, they departed with Rs. 10.02 million in cash along with 3500 US Dollars.

Initial investigations suggest that the suspects initially demanded a bribe of Rs. 40 million, promising to withhold any legal action against the victim.
