The Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project has ushered in significant savings for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), with approximately Rs. 80 million saved per day since its opening.

Director D.C.S. Alakanda highlighted the project's effectiveness in electricity generation compared to other sources.

In just a month of operation, the project has enabled the CEB to save around Rs. 1.5 billion. The Hydro Power Plant at the project was jointly inaugurated by Iran's President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe on April 24, 2024.
