US Donates Equipment to Strengthen Sri Lanka’s Virtual Court Procedures

The US Embassy in Sri Lanka has made a significant contribution to the Ministry of Justice's efforts to enhance virtual court procedures.

A donation of 35 video conferencing units was handed over to Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe by US Ambassador Julie Chung.
Ambassador Chung highlighted the collaboration between the US Embassy, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Minister Rajapakshe in advancing Sri Lanka's virtual court system.

The equipment aims to improve prisoners' access to legal services, expedite trials, and reduce judicial backlog. Ambassador Chung reaffirmed the commitment of the US Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) to support Sri Lanka's initiatives in reducing prison overcrowding and enhancing judicial processes through court automation.
