Elections Commissioner Says Nominations Will Be Called Within 3 Weeks

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said that nominations would be called for the Presidential Election 2015 will be called after 16 days and before 21 days.

The Elections Commissioner also said that the election will be held within 45 to 65 days from today (20). Deshapriya added that he will issue the date for nominations and the date of the election within the next 48 hours.  

President Mahinda Rajapaksa today signed the proclamation declaring his intention to hold a Presidential Election seeking his third term.

Elections Commissioner confirmed that he had received the gazette notification pertaining to the Presidential Election.

The election, according to highly placed political sources, will be held before January 7. Most probably on January 3. The exact date of election will be officially announced by Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya.

While President Mahinda Rajapaksa will contest as the presidential candidate of the ruling party and the candidates of the opposition are yet to be announced.
