Hakeem Agrees To Drink Coffee With MR For One Last Time!

December 22, 2014

When key members of the party have strongly opined that the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress should pledge support to the Common opposition, SLMC Leader Rauff Hakeem has agreed to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees for “final talks”.

The final discussions between both parties are scheduled to take place today at Temple Trees. The SLMC is likely to announce its decision tomorrow following the discussions at Temple Trees.

Sources close to the government said the SLMC might reconsider its stance to support the Common Candidate following the discussion with the President today. A party spokesman told Asian Mirror that the party would support any candidate who’s willing to accept proposals presented by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.

“Regardless of the final decision, there will be a split in the party. Even if the party decides to leave the government, at least three MPs will remain with the President,” top SLMC sources told Asian Mirror on Monday.

However, it is learnt that the leadership of the SLMC has come under severe pressure from its rank and file to leave the UPFA government and extend its support to Maithripala Sirisena, Common Candidate of the opposition.
