Weerawansa Says More MPs Could Be In Prison Ahead Of Election

National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa stated that police Financial Crimes Investigations Division was established with the objective of sending 10-15 MPs to prison before the next general election.

Speaking at a press conference at Abhayarama Temple in Colombo, Weerawansa said that the government should first bring Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran to FCID for the Treasury bonds issue. However he remains untouched by such probes, Weerawansa added.

FCID was established entirely as a part of a political program to suppress opposition, he claimed.

SLFP National Organizer Susil Premajantha on Wednesday claimed that FCID was politicized and SLFP was mulling legal action against it. However, peaking to Asian Mirror this morning, Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara refuted this allegation.
