Police To Take Action On Southern Province Minister For Death Threat

Police Department strongly condemned the recent threatening speech by Southern Province Minister D.V. Upul and pledged that it will take legal action against him over the matter.

At a recent meeting in Hambantota, Upul threatened that he is waiting for the return of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister so that he could watch the police officers of the Financial Crimes Investigations Division being stoned to death.

Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told media that this was a serious threat and could be penalized under the penal code. A maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment can be given to such death threats, he added.
