SLFP Anti-Rajapaksa Faction Looking For Alternatives: Reports

Following the decision to grant nominations to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, a section of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has reportedly started to look for possible alternatives.

Reports suggested that a section of SLFP members are planning to form a separate alliance to contest for the upcoming general election.

It was reported recently that more than 30 prominent SLFP members were thinking of coming out of the party if Rajapaksa was granted nominations. Former President Chandrika Kumaratunga was vehemently opposed to the move and said that she would also contest the election if Rajapaksa is given nominations.

Meanwhile, Provincial Council Member Hirunika Premachandra recently said that she would retire from politics if Rajapaksa is given nominations.
