Anti-Rajapaksa Factions In UPFA In Shock Over Sirisena's Decision

There is a sense of shock and disbelief among anti-Rajapaksa elements within the constituent parties of the UPFA over the decision to grant nominations to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A member of one constituent UPFA party told Asian Mirror that President Sirisena had betrayed the 6.2 million who voted for him and rejected Mahinda Rajapaksa at the presidential election. Those who came out in support for Sirisena also felt betrayed, the spokesperson said.

Most of the constituent parties in the UPFA divided during the presidential election, with breakaway groups coming out in support of the then common candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

Some of there groups are now exploring the possibility of forming an alternative front, the spokesperson further said.
