JHU Changes Name To EYJP

Jathika Hela Urumaya has changed its name to Eksath Yahapalana Jathika Peramuna (EYJP) or the United National Front for Good Governance.

The party symbol has been changed from the conch shell to the diamond.

The JHU is the most prominent party to change its name during the period allowd by the Elections Commissioner. Political parties were given until July 3 to change names or symbols as per their requirment.

The JHU today announced that it was leaving the UPFA and contesting the election under a new front.

However, there are reports that anti-Mahinda Rajapaksa elements are considering the National Democratic Front as a possible party to contest the election.
