Rosy's Office Says CMC Charging Rs. 400 From Children Entering Viharamahadevi Park Was "Fake News"

Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake's office said the news of CMC charging Rs. 400 from a child visiting the Vihara Mahadevi Park, Colombo 07 was completely untrue and baseless.

"It is basically a pilot project for 06 months to allow children to use remote controlled cars in the park," a spokesman from the Mayor's office said.

The spokesman said the proposal passed at the council was related to the remote control car project and had no bearing on other activities within the park.

The Mayor's office added that the news was an organized campaign to paint a wrong picture about the CMC's development plans for the Viharamahadevi Park.

The proposal has been presented under the recommendation of the Finance Committee of the Colombo Municipal Council.

The members representing the UNP, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and Sri Lanka Freedom Party have voted in favour of the proposal.

The JVP has voted against it saying the propal, if implemented, will restrict the Vihara Mahadevi Park to the 'privileged' children.

The proposal is expected  to be fully implemented in two months
