Rajapaksa Rejects Calls For National Government

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa rejected the suggestion of forming a national government, saying that the UNP has remembered the national government due to its impending electoral defeat.

Speaking at a rally in Galgamuwa yesterday, Rajapaksa said that the UNP did not want to form a national government during the last years of the war when it was necessary.

Instead, the UNP was preaching about the national government since its defeat at the August 17 election is now a foregone conclusion, Rajapaksa said.

He added that he wants to form a stable UPFA government. The UPFA will win a majority of seats in the parliament, Rajapaksa said.
