'Those Who Cannot Defeat Rajapaksa Want His Security Detail Reduced': Muzammil

National Freedom Front Media Spokesman Mohammed Muzammil said that a plan is underway to put the former President’s life in danger through reducing his security.

Speaking to media on Monday, he pointed out that intelligence services had requested that the government assign more security personal for the former President’s security detail.

“According to intelligence services, his life is in danger. Those who cannot defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa at the political arena are behind this drama,” Muzammil added.

Earlier, a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition was filed with Supreme Court by the Nava Sama Samaja Party, seeking a directive to reduce the security provided to Rajapaksa, who is contesting the forthcoming parliamentary polls. This ‘special treatment’  was unfair on the other candidates, the petition argued.

JVP candidate Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala also filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) regarding the same matter.
