Final Rites of Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne to be Held with State Honours

 

The remains of Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, esteemed Founder of the Sarvodaya movement, will be placed at the Sarvodaya headquarters in Moratuwa starting from 5pm on Wednesday (17) for the public to pay their respects.
Dr. Ariyaratne's final rites will be conducted with state honors on Saturday (20) evening in Colombo. Dr. Ariyaratne, who passed away on Tuesday (16) evening at a private hospital in Colombo at the age of 92, began his journey in Unawatuna Galle and later pursued education at Mahinda Vidyalaya in Galle and Vidyodaya Pirivena. His legacy includes the establishment of the Sarvodaya Foundation in 1958, which has grown into Sri Lanka’s most widespread community-based development organization. His contributions to the welfare of society have been acknowledged nationally and internationally, culminating in the conferral of the title Sri Lankabhimanya in 2007.
