Lanka Hospitals Financial Fraud: Gotabaya Rajapaksa's Role To Be Probed

The Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris today directed the Colombo Financial Frauds Investigation Division to conduct an investigation into alleged financial fraud that took place at Lanka Hospitals during the chairmanship of former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The Additional Magistrate made this order following a case filed by financial frauds division upon a complaint received to them by Dr. Neomal Alexander Perera.

Dr. Perera alleged that Rajapaksa was appointed to the Lanka Hospital chairmanship in 2009 and he is responsible for huge financial frauds that took place during 2009 to 2014.

He complained to police that Rajapaksa is alleged to have cheated Rs.600 million during a stock market transaction pertaining to Lanka Hospital shares and not followed proper tender procedure in purchasing two houses to the hospital incurring huge financial loses.

He further charged that Rajapaksa should be held responsible for a fraud amounting to Rs.350 million that took place in constructing a LHD laboratory.
