Government Introduced 'George Soros Type' Budget: FLSP

December 04, 2015

The government has not introduced a 'Sardiel budget' as claimed, and instead, has imposed a budget of the 'George Soros type', the Frontline Socialist Party said.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, FLSP Propaganda Secretary Pubudu Jayagoda said that the government has not taken from the rich and given to the poor.

Instead, the taxes levied on the wealthy sector has been reduced from Rs 249 billion in 2015 to Rs 223 billion in 2016, he claimed.

Meanwhile, the Goods and Services Tax revenue has increased from Rs 767 billion to Rs 993 billion for the same period, affecting the poorer sections of the society, Jayagoda argued.

Furthermore, the expenditure for health and education has been grossly exaggerated, Jayagoda said, adding that the government has actually allocated only a meager sum for higher education.
