Lankan Fashion Chain Cashes In On Maithripala - Enrique Bra Controversy

Avirate, a widely known high-end fashion chain, has cashed in on the 'Bra controversy' triggered by President Maithripala Sirisena to promote their products for the festive season.

Avirate, in a new advertisement, has invited its potential customers, who lost their brassieres during Enrique Iglesias' show in Colombo, to get new ones from its outlets.

This is the first time, the much-talked-about "bra controversy" surrounding Enrique Iglesias' "Love and Sex" show has hit the 'consumer market' of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, in a controversial speech , last Sunday said, organizers of an Enrique Iglesias show in Sri Lanka should be "whipped with toxic stingray tails" after lustful ladies threw their bras onstage and hugged and kissed the singer.

"This is most uncivilized behavior that goes against our culture," Sirisena said during a school prize giving in ampere following the concert.

The statement, which drew wide attention from international media, was widely criticised by Sri Lankan citizens who expected a liberal approach from President Sirisena, when it came to matters concerning race and culture.

Defending his controversial statement a few days later, the Sri Lankan President said he would not allow anyone to destroy the country's culture and roam the streets naked.
