Disheartened Warnasinghe To Stay Independent In Council

Former Minister of the Western Provincial Council and JHU stalwart Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe is likely to act as an independent member in the council, informed political sources told Asian Mirror.

There is a tug of war between Warnasinghe and Western Province Chief Minister Isura Devapriya after the latter took over Wanrasinghe's ministry after its expenditure head was defeated in the council. He expressed strong disappointment over move by the Chief Minister to take over his ministries.

Warnasinghe accused the Chief Minister of acting in a conspiratorial manner to deliberately defeat the expenditure head of his ministry. Devapriya, who was appointed as the Chief Minister after PRasanna Ranatunga was elected to Parliament, is known to be a loyalist of President Maithripala Sirisena.

When a fresh vote was taken on the expenditure head of the ministry yesterday, Warnasinghe, a member officially representing the ruling party, was absent in the council.

JHU sources told Asian Mirror that the party stalwart would distance himself from the council's ruling party in the future and act as an independent member.
