A group including former MP Ajith Kumara has organized a protest near Galle bus stand, demanding the government to let Kumar Gunaratnam engage in politics.

Frontline Socialist Party has started protests across the country, demanding the release of Gunaratnam.

Kumar Gunaratnam, who is currently an Australian citizen, was arrested by Kegalle police on 4th November 2015. Gunaratnam, who had become an Australian citizen under the name of ‘Noel Mudalige’, was decamping in Sri Lanka after overstaying his tourist visa since his arrival in the country on 1st January this year, violating immigration and emigration regulations.
