Army Commander In Further Soup With Military Police Taking Over Documents At Girithale Army Camp

The tug of war between Army Comamnder Chrishantha de Silva and the Criminal Investigations Department over the investigation into the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda has taken a new turn with the Army Commander placing the Girithale  camp under the Military Police. 

"The Homagama Magistrate directed the Army Commander to cooperate with the CID investigation. Instead of cooperating with then CID, he took measures to close down a part of the camp and took placed some important documents under the custody of the Military Police. With this development, who will be held responsible for the safety of the documents? Army came under severe criticism from various quarters for not cooperating with this investigation? Can the Army Commander guarantee the safety of the documents," a senior officer involved in the CID investigation asked. 

He said the Military Police should have facilitated the CID to get easy access to the documents and other evidence pertaining to the case. 

The officer added that the CID would raise this matter before the Homagama Magistrate at the next hearing of the case with regard to the disappearance of Eknaligoda. 

Meanwhile, the Army Spokesman, in a press statement on Thursday, said the Girthale army camp was sealed while contradicting multiple media reports.

Army Spokesperson Jayanath Jayaweera further said the army has given security for few cupboards supposed to be having confidential documents which was inspected by the military police to assist the courts which demanded few reports needed to investigate the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.
