Qatar Announces Amnesty For Illegal Migrant Workers

Ministry of Interior of Qatar has declared a three-month amnesty period for the illegally staying migrant workers to leave the country.

The amnesty is in force from 1st September to 1st December 2016. Migrant workers, who have been living in Qatar without extending their visa, are allowed to return to their countries during this period.

According to the ministry, those who are leaving Qatar would not be fined or punished. This is the third grace period implemented by the government of Qatar.

Sri Lankan Bureau of Foreign Employment requested the relevant Sri Lankan migrant workers to use this period to return to the country without any punishment as the Ministry of Interior of Qatar would begin investigations on  illegal workers after the amnesty.

Relevant workers are able to check for their exit permit from the Department of Internal Affairs of Qatar from 2.p.m. to 8.p.m from Sunday to Thursday.
