Rajapaksa Used Government Profit For Benefit Of Family: Mannapperuma

Former UNP MP Ajith Mannapperuma lashed out at former president Mahinda Rajapaksa for using the profit earned by several profit-making government institutions for election campaigning and the benefit of the family.

Speaking at a special 'Expose' media conference, he mentioned the National Lotteries Board, the Development Lotteries Board and Sri Lanka Telecom as such institutions.

The profit of these institution should have been transferred to the Treasury and then used for development of the country, Mannapperuma pointed out. However, the profit earned by these institutions was used for other purposes, he added.

Mannapperuma said that the profit of the DLB should have been transferred for the President's Fund to support needy people, and for the Mahapola fund. However, the profit of this institution was instead used for the 'Nil Balakaya' and 'Thaarunyayata Hetak' led by Namal Rajapaksa, Mannapperuma claimed. Therefore, DLB funds were used to pave the future of Namal Rajapaksa, Mannapperuma added.

He further added that the funds were also used to prop-up the CSN TV channel, which did not even pay taxes to the government. Some of the funds transferred in this manner was deposited overseas, Mannapperuma claimed.
