Lalkantha Says No Party Will Win More Than 90 Seats

National Trade Union Centre Chairman and JVP Colombo District candidate K. D. Lalkantha said that no party will be able to win more than 90 seats in the forthcoming general election.

Speaking at an event in Colombo today, he said that the ‘national government’ concept has been introduced by both major parties since they realize this situation.

This was the main reason why the two major parties did not support prohibiting crossovers in the parliament, as proposed by the JVP, Lalkantha added.

He also said that there was only a small group which engaged in principled politics, and the JVP was the only party which could play the role of an effective opposition.

Lalkantha also spoke about former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, stating that he could have established himself as the greatest leader in Sri Lankan history if he had rebuilt the country after the war. Instead he was interested in clinging on to power, which made the people defeat him in the end, Lalkantha said.
