Convener of the Movement for a Just Society Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, who is undergoing medical treatment in Singapore, is in critical condition, Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva said.

"The factual position at the moment is that Ven Maduluwawe Sobhitha thero is in a critical condition but under the best care in the world" he said on Twitter a short while ago.

Sobhitha Thera underwent a by-pass surgery last month and was flown to Singapore a few days ago to be treated for complications.

He was one of the key leaders of the Presidential Election campaign of Maithripala Sirisena.
