Two Firebrand Ministers In Secret Discussions To Defeat Ravi ' s Budget

November 09, 2015

Two ministers of the present government and four other Parliamentarians had held a secret discussion in Colombo over the possibility of voting against the budget presented by Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

The two ministers, in the past few weeks,  projected themselves as vociferous critiques of the government over its seemingly slow approach on anti-corruption investigations.

At the discussion, the two ministers had said the Avant Garde investigations could be construed as a "turning point" for the UNP-led national unity government.

The two ministers, who were staunch supporters of President Maithripala Sirisena, contested the last Parliamentary on the UNP ticket.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, led by Minister Rauf Hakeem, had also expressed similar sentiments about certain investigations initiated by the new government.
