Political parties, mass organisations and religious bodies and civil society will join the protest against the Sri Lanka government for abstaining from voting on a Resolution by the UNESCO which denounced Israeli violations in and around the occupied-Jerusalem, to be held in front of the Dewatagaha Mosque in Colombo after Jummah prayers today.

A large number of non-Muslims too are expected to join the protest. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dewatagaha Mosque Reyyaz

Salley told the “Pakistan Observer” that they condemn the decision of the government particularly the Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera for not supporting the UNESCO Resolution. Let us join hands to show our solidarity for Palestine.

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera who was one time removed by formere PresideNT Mahinda Rajapakse for the same reason should be replaced for his pro-Israeli attitude. Reyyaz Salley said that Sri Lankan Muslims supported the present government with the expectation that the community will be supported and assisted by the government but Sri Lanka’s move to abstain from voting is a disappointment.

The UNESCO Resolution which was supported by Egypt, Morocco, Algeria. Lebanon, Oman , Qatar, Sudan , China, Russia, South Africa and Brazil strongly condemned the escalating Israeli aggression and illegal measures and called on Israel , the occupying power, to respect the historic status quo and to immediately stop these measures. It also criticized the continuous storming of Haram

Al-Sharif by Israeli right wing extremists and uniformed forces . Al Aqsa Mosque id the third holiest site in islam after Masjid Al-Haram in Mekkah and Masjid Al-Nabawi in Meddinsh. Demonstrations all over Sri Lanka are expected to be held today after Jummah prayers as reported by Pakistan Observer.
